about
Factum Foundation, in collaboration with Fondazione Giorgio Cini, presents a workshop on the analysis and 3D digitisation of cultural heritage, held on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore and at selected locations in Venice.
This immersive training initiative focuses on the use of non-contact, high-resolution technologies to document artistic and architectural elements of historical significance.
Spanning 25 hours, the workshop introduces participants to digital preservation while exploring the artistic heritage of San Giorgio Maggiore and Venice. Guided by a team of experts, participants will gain hands-on experience in capturing objects and spaces using:
- photogrammetry (for architectures, statues)
- LiDAR scanning (for architectures)
- Selene Photometric Stereo System (for documents, book pages, paintings, bass reliefs, printing plates, drawings,…)
The programme also covers data processing and the creation of accurate 2.5D and 3D models of objects and spaces. It also introduces digital preservation and 2D recording techniques.
The workshop is fully in-person and follows a learning-by-doing approach combining theory and practice. It is open to a selected group of participants (both students and professionals with diverse backgrounds). Participants contribute to a real digitisation project, creating a data archive that supports applications such as art historical research, virtual restoration, and rematerialisation for exhibitions.
